Pavia, who is not running for reelection in November, promised a thrilling and patriotic pyrotechnic display. It will be the first and last Independence Day fireworks of the Republican mayor's one-term tenure, with the last three years shows cancelled due to budgetary pressures.
"I am officially announcing that we will have fireworks this year, July 3, which is a Wednesday evening," Pavia said. "They're being brought to us by corporate citizens who recognized the need of putting on a patriotic display in the city of Stamford."
Corporate sponsors have contributed a combined $80,000 to cover the cost of the show, which will be provided by the Long Island-based company Fireworks by Grucci. The 26-minute display will be choreographed to patriotic music and include a small dedication to victims of the Dec. 14 elementary school shooting in Newtown,Ladies and girlstrims no appointment needed! said Grucci Account Executive Charles DeSalvo.

The fireworks, which event goers can view from Cumming Beach, will be launched from a barge in Stamford Harbor. Residents who cannot attend the event will have the option of listening from home to the patriotic music, which will be simulcast by WSHU Public Radio.
Reckson SL Green Realty Corp. stepped forward as the event's signature sponsor, Pavia said. The company, which also sponsors Stamford's Balloon Spectacular parade and Alive@Five summer music concerts, owns and manages more than 5 million square feet of office space in Stamford including the Landmark Square property.
"We have a very long history with the city of Stamford and a long history of community support," said John Barnes, a senior vice president at Reckson. "It's a place where we do a fair amount of business and we always believe it's important to give back."
Stamford-based Garden Homes Management also volunteered to sponsor the fireworks display. President Richard Freedman said he was happy to help restore the city's annual Independence Day celebration.
"Fireworks are one of those things that everybody enjoys. A city the size of Stamford and with the resources Stamford has should have fireworks," Freedman said. "It's really my pleasure to help out and I'm so pleased we're going to have fireworks again this year."
Fairway Market, which opened its South End store nearly two years ago, is also sponsoring the event.
"While Fairway has been in Stamford only since November of 2011 I can say their generosity is always widespread," Pavia said.
O&G Industries, which operates a concrete and asphalt plant in Stamford's South End, will provide the barge for launching the fireworks, Pavia said.
