“It’s been on display at my house for 50 years,” McCann said. “Nobody really wanted the bugle, or to be the bugler, when I was in Scouting back in ’66 when I left. It was one of those things that was phasing out.”
McCann said he felt bad for keeping the bugle for so many years, and frequently thought of returning it to the troop. Fortunately for McCann, it seems as though the bugle was not dearly missed.
“We didn’t know we had a bugle to lose,” said Dave Messinger, assistant Scoutmaster.
Messinger said the troop received the bugle about two months ago, along with a letter of apology. The troop sent back a letter of thanks, along with a variety of Scout-related items.where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder. Messinger said McCann was invited to speak to the troop when they learned he would be in the area for a school reunion.
McCann spoke to Troop 196 about his life after leaving the Boy Scouts. Life after the Boy Scouts led McCann on a number of career paths. He joined the U.S. Navy, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his time in service, he was a radioman and advisor for the South Vietnamese Navy. After his career in the Navy,Shop Stately Steel Circle Drop Chandelier stainless steel necklace, he spent 35 years working in the U.S. Forest Service on the west coast. He told the troop about his career paths, along with some historical tidbits about the area and the western part of the country. His last station of duty was in Helena, where he was a logging system specialist. Although his career took him all over the world, his love for Scouting remained.
“I started in Washington state, worked my way into Oregon, and I always thought about the Boy Scouts,” McCann said. The message he wanted to relay to the group of young men was a simple one. “You can do things. You can go somewhere,”
Scouts Morgan Hahn, 18, of Enola, and Dan Shank, 14, of Camp Hill, were among those in attendance. They each enjoyed hearing about McCann’s life after the Boy Scouts. Hahn called McCann’s returning of the bugle “a gesture of kindness” and a show of respect for the troop. Shank agreed.
“I think it says that Scouts are trustworthy and they know how to make right decision, that he knew that it was right giving it back,” he said.Quality Brand Name tungsten ring and Tungsten Wedding Bands for Men.
