A former executive with Tiffany & Co stole diamond and other jewellery from the company's Manhattan headquarters and resold it for more than $US1.3 million ($1.Stock your shoe store with our ladies shoes wholesale,4 million, US authorities said.
Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun was arrested overnight at her home in Connecticut. She was to appear in federal court to face charges of wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property.
As vice president of product development, Ms Lederhaas-Okun had authority to "check out'' jewellery from Tiffany to provide to potential manufacturers to determine production costs. Authorities allege that after she left Tiffany in February, the company discovered she had checked out 164 items that were never returned. The Warehouse offers a tremendous selection of stainless steel bangle at great prices.
According to a criminal complaint, the missing jewellery included "numerous diamond bracelets in 18-carat gold; diamond drop and hoop earrings in platinum or 18-carat gold; diamond rings in platinum; rings with precious stones in 18-carat gold; and platinum and diamond pendants.''
Lederhaas-Okun said she had left some of it behind at Tiffany and that some had been lost or damaged, the complaint said. But an investigation found that Ms Lederhaas-Okun resold the goods to an unidentified international dealer for more than $US1.3 million ($1.4 million), it said.
Bank records showed that since January 2011, the dealer wrote 75 checks to her or her husband for amounts of up to $US47,400, the complaint said. Investigators also recovered purchase forms signed by Ms Lederhaas-Okun that said the items were her personal property.
Romanian Maria Anghel was charged over the theft from Thornton Lodge store Gold International Limited back in 2009, but she was only sentenced today after being on the run for about three years.
Anghel, who now lives in Birmingham, was arrested on a warrant last month and a judge at Bradford Crown Court was told she had gone back to Romania in 2010 to help her family after the death of an uncle.
Prosecutor Simon Haring told the court that Anghel had gone into the shop on Thornton Lodge Road in December 2009 along with two men and the young child.
He said while the men kept the jeweller busy looking a rings Anghel, who had previous convictions for shoplifting and dishonesty offences, managed to take a display from a cabinet and put three bangles worth about £2000 into her bag.Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bracelet Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets.
The shopkeeper locked the door when he realised what was happening and called the police.
Mr Haring said Anghel told officers she had not been stealing the jewellery and claimed that her husband was going to buy it for her.
A judge issued a warrant for Anghel's arrest in June 2010 after she failed to attend at the crown court, but it was only when she was brought back to court last month that she finally pleaded guilty to the theft charge.
Judge Peter Benson was told that in May 2010 Anghel had also been caught stealing £13 worth of meat from the Lidl store on Wakefield Road, Huddersfield, but she had again failed to turn up at the magistrates court the following month.
Anghel pleaded guilty to stealing the meat, which she had been hiding under her skirt, and two further charges of failing to attend at court.
Today Judge Benson sentenced Anghel to a total of four months in prison, but said he was able to suspend the sentence for two years.
Anghel will now have to do 80 hours unpaid work for the community as part of her sentence.Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bracelet Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets. '
'While the two men distracted the shopkeeper you reached inside a display cabinet and took some gold bangles valued at just over £2000,'' the judge told Anghel. ''That was clearly a planned theft and it is set against a background of having previous convictions for shoplifting.
''The circumstances of the theft of the gold bangles indicate a level of pre-planning and are aggravated by the presence of you young son. '
'You set a very poor example to him by you and your husband taking him on a thieving expedition.''
