Wally Purdy was shaking hands here and there as he ambled casually through the crowds gathering Riverside Park Sunday for the weekend Ribfest annual bash. 

On this warm and sunny weekend, he was delighted to run into old friends and school buddies, some of whom the 56-year-old Guelphite hadn't seen in decades. 

"It's a very unique occasion. Once a year you run into people who don't otherwise hook up with," the amiable Purdy said. "That's why I never miss it.

He was by no means the only one. The Rotary Ribfest seemed like a high school reunion for many as they laughed and bantered while milling about, taking in live music, seeing the sights and standing in long lines for delicious dishes that have drawn thousands over the past 16 years to the popular north-side park's late summer signature event.Customized Promotion Dedicated Server offer you a wide. 

There were vendors of all kinds offering dresses from today and yesteryear, western hats, cosmetics, blankets featuring Marilyn Monroe, temporary airbrushed tattoos, metal tree wall hangings and, of course, the required beer tent.

"This year, we're hoping we don't have to hand the trophy back," Will Haase said as he helped supervise his team's lip-smacking barbecuing efforts Sunday.

"It's the nostalgia — and seeing the evolution of the technology," dad said. 

While his father preferred modern imports, son Alex said he appreciated powerful domestic cars from yesteryear. "I've always liked to give these old muscle cars a chance," the youth said as father and son closely examined a green, 1970 Monte Carlo. They weren't drooling, but if they had been, they might have blamed the ribs. 

"We had a nice half rack each," the dad said, pleased with the sunny weather in which to enjoy them at their leisure. "We're lucky to get such a good weekend."
