  • where jobs can be created

The Maltese economy has been doing well in managing to create new jobs especially in the light of the economic crisis faced by countries such as Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, Spain and Ireland. However,Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal. no country can sit still and Malta needs to continually keep seeking new avenues of income to create new jobs. This will expand opportunities for our people to cooperate, compete, and contribute to our economy in a meaningful way and keep on raising their standard of living.
Malta has been very innovative over the years in creating new sectors from scratch like tourism, financial sector, i-gaming, ICT, maritime, aviation, generic pharmaceuticals and others. Like products and services, sectors also have their life cycles. There are stages in everybody’s life like childhood, adult, middle age and then old age. Likewise there are stages in every sector’s life cycle.
If one observes the gaming industry closely, one will find that there are many firms that have high investment rates, high rates of return on investments and low rates of dividend payout. Other sectors might have low rates of investment, low rates of return and higher dividends payout.
In the course of time, growth normally slows down. The same applies to countries. More and more countries are encouraged to get into a sector, competition increases globally and this affects profits. Advanced and new technologies start becoming more obvious and the extent of risks, decreases making the entry easier.
It would be na?ve to think that a sector will always remain in its growth or consolidation or maturity stage and never start experiencing a relative decline stage. It is thus important to always be pro-active, ahead of the game and explore new avenues, new business models and new sectors.
The best way to predict the future is to invent it. I think the distinction between predicting the future and inventing it is an important one. I often get the feeling that we all believe that business and economic success in this day depends on having some kind of crystal ball, on being able to know with a high degree of certainty what is going to happen and then create a solution that is tailored to that correctly-predicted future.
Good politicians and business leaders are clear about what they and their people are best at and most passionate about. They gather as much information as is feasible on where things might be heading, and they reflect on it. Then they head in a direction that takes best advantage of their strengths to meet key needs they believe will arise. They invent new models, approaches, sectors, products or solutions that will serve a future need, and in so doing they have a hand in inventing that future. It requires courage, curiosity and resilience.
The government is not in the business of creating jobs. Governments can only cultivate the conditions where jobs can be created and have a duty to formulate the right forward looking strategies, policies, regulatory frameworks, investment conditions, removal of unnecessary red tape and provide red carpet treatment to all entrepreneurs.
Malta has already taken the bold step of venturing into life sciences. Globally-smart life science companies constantly need to fill product pipelines, reduce development costs, access new growth markets, and be the first to market new products. They may be searching for new technology, new investment opportunities or are considering their presence worldwide.
The economic burden of increasing healthcare costs is a challenge facing all developed nations. The need to deliver more care at a lower cost is universal. Per capita costs in Malta for health care could be lowered such that the remarkable intersection of quality and cost-efficiency is the starting point for a new generation healthcare technology development.
With the manageable size of Malta and the tendency of the Maltese to be early adopters, Malta has always been a good introductory market or testing ground for new products or services and can be a service centre for high expertise support centres.Uline stocks a wide selection of Double sided tape Products.
Malta provides strong investor protection and a safe, secure investment environment through robust business laws.Solutions is batch tested to insure the EMI material Products. New markets related to venture capital, and private equity need to be continually looked at to seize the right opportunities and continue growing this financial sector.
Malta’s strengths in software development, design and support services need to be expanded upon. There is no reason why ICT companies in Malta cannot aspire to become IT Regional Service Centres or Centres of Excellence. Mobile applications and gaming software are typical examples of the dynamic opportunities offered by the ICT and gaming sectors and Malta is having its fair share of success in these areas.
Malta has unique experiences in sectors such as ICT, finance, accounting, insurance, tourism, water management, regulation to name a few and consulting at an international level could be a viable new avenue. Malta should explore new markets of small states around the globe. One would be surprised to learn how these small countries value much more the advice and expertise of other countries of similar size than the experiences of larger countries like the USA, Canada and United Kingdom. It is really gratifying to see how many small countries on the other side of the globe respect Malta for its economic achievements and for what they consider to be its success in ICT especially i-gaming, e-Government and e-inclusion, logistics, financial sector and regulation.
Malta’s robust infrastructure and highly educated workforce make it a good location for high value-added data centres. This must be coupled with the proper data legislation while its time zone can attract overnight processing of American and Asian transactions. Our offered BOPP Tapes are in compliance with the BOPP tape Products.
Cloud Computing, just as i-gaming did a couple of years ago, could present Malta with an opportunity. Such an opportunity is contingent on a policy environment in which enterprises can leverage digital technologies to do business wherever they find a market, and customers have access to the best technologies the world has to offer.
To that end, the General Data Protection Regulation must strike a better balance between privacy protections – which are unquestionably essential – and enabling digital technologies. One practical improvement to the Commission’s draft text would be to recognise context and risk in the definition of personal data. Different types of data, and different uses of data, carry different levels of risk and sensitivity. A context- and risk-based approach would ensure strong privacy protections are in place for truly sensitive user data, while making it easier for SMEs and businesses of all types and sizes to reap the benefits of innovative, data-enabled technologies by allowing data to flow through the global cloud – seamlessly and efficiently. Recently, a Swiss ICT company said its enquiry rates for cloud computing were exponentially on the rise due to Switzerland’s neutrality to the US and UK where data security has recently come into light.
Cloud Computing is leaving its mark on various industries including the construction industry, a sector with which one does not often associate cloud computing. There are many different types of businesses within the construction industry, from architects who design the buildings, engineers and consultants who advise on the construction process, product manufacturers and suppliers who make all the materials that constitute the actual building,This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool. through to contractors who actually build them.
In most sectors within this industry, organisations range in size from some very large players to, at the other extreme, some very small niche players. This could be an opportunity for some local niche players to internationalise as well as cloud providers to set up in Malta as a regional cloud hub for construction firms in the region.
Malta has been successful in the maritime registration area and is expanding into aircraft registration. It has also been successful in aircraft maintenance where academic-industry collaboration has provided a model for other sectors to emulate. Other related areas like aircraft financing and leasing, parts manufacturing, aircraft maintenance e-learning theoretical modules etc. need to be continually explored and evaluated.

  • why manufacturers should do everything

China has halted imports of all New Zealand milk powder, New Zealand's trade minister said on Sunday, after bacteria that can cause botulism found in some dairy products raised food safety concerns that threatened its $9.4 billion annual dairy trade.
Global dairy trade giant Fonterra said late last week it had sold contaminated New Zealand-made whey protein concentrate to eight customers in Australia, China,Find a variety of monolayer protective film Products. Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Saudi Arabia for use in a range of products, including infant milk powder.
Nearly 90 percent of China's $1.9 billion in milk powder imports last year originated in New Zealand, so a prolonged ban could result in a shortage of dairy products in China.
Foreign-branded infant formula in particular is a prized commodity in China given consumer distrust of Chinese brands after a series of domestic food safety scandals.
New Zealand's neighbour Australia was caught up in the ban after some of the contaminated whey protein concentrate was exported there before being sent on to China and elsewhere.
"The authorities in China, in my opinion absolutely appropriately, have stopped all imports of New Zealand milk powders from Australia and New Zealand,This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool." New Zealand Trade Minister Tim Groser told Television New Zealand on Sunday.
"It's better to do blanket protection for your people and then wind it back when we, our authorities, are in a position to give them the confidence and advice that they need before doing that," he said.
There was no official word of a ban from Chinese authorities early on Sunday.
On Saturday, Chinese state radio said Fonterra was notifying three Chinese firms affected by the contamination. Some of China's biggest food and beverage companies are said to be customers of Fonterra, using its milk powder as an ingredient in everything from confectionery to cheese on frozen pizza.
Fonterra is a major supplier of bulk milk powder products used in formula in China but it had stayed out of branding after Chinese dairy company Sanlu, in which it had held a large stake, was found to have added melamine - often used in plastics - to bulk up formulas in 2008. More than six children died in the industry-wide scandal and hundreds were made sick.
With the latest TV sets containing microphones and video cameras pointed straight at the viewers, the potential for sleazy spying is reaching a new level, especially since the new sets are ill-equipped to handle hackers.
That's the word from Sen.Uline stocks a wide selection of Double sided tape Products. Charles Schumer, who says web cameras on the sets are vulnerable to hackers because they don't have a uniform set of safety standards. Unless manufacturers unite and follow a single standard, those watching TV at home may end up under surveillance themselves from lowlifes who exploit the technology, he said.Solutions is batch tested to insure the EMI material Products.
"You expect to watch TV, but you don't want the TV watching you," said Schumer in a prepared statement Sunday. "Many of these smart televisions are vulnerable to hackers who can spy on you while you're watching TV in your living room.Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal."
He's calling on major television manufacturers, such as Sony, Samsung and Toshiba, to join together to thwart the next generation of spyware. "Our computers have access to firewalls and other security blocks but these televisions do not and that's why manufacturers should do everything possible to create a standard of security in their Internet-connected products," he said.
Schumer, a Democrat. cited a presentation at a Las Vegas technology conference, where it was reported that a security flaw allows hackers to access microphones and video images captured by the new TVs. That technology is supposed to allow for video chats, but it can be exploited for more sinister purposes.
He said he shot down a suggestion by manufacturers that consumers simply put tape over the camera; the burden should be on the manufacturers, not consumers.
"It is imperative that we protect people that purchase televisions with these features from being hacked or spied on, and possibly divulging information they do not desire to," he said in a letter to TV manufacturers.

  • which model best suits their office needs

From the roots of a popular Hammond stationary and printing company established in 1921, McShane’s branched off into office products and supplies to better serve the needs of its very broad and growing loyal customer base.
Right from the start, the company, which was already dedicated to providing top-notch customer service, focused on offering quality and value with a wide selection of business products and solutions. The goal was to always ensure the best possible fit for every company they serve.
“McShane’s is proud to be the premier and largest independent distributor of office supplies, equipment and furniture in northern Indiana,” President Brian McShane said. “For more than 90 years, we have taken great pride in the relationships we build, helping our loyal customers succeed. Now into a fourth generation, our business is still family-owned and operated, and we are just as committed to serving our broad customer base with unsurpassed quality, value and service while maintaining our role as leading stewards throughout the region.”
For example, when the recession really took hold in 2008, McShane’s “Buy Local, Give Local” initiative helped increase awareness for the need to support local charitable organizations. “At McShane’s our years’ of experience have taught us that by truly partnering with our clients, we can all succeed. By partnering we are much more than a product supplier. When it comes to overseeing and coordinating an office furniture/workstation installation, move or reconfiguration, McShane’s project management capabilities help keep any office as productive as possible. • The project was recently recorded in Los Angeles

Once a static niche for aficionados renting clunky cassettes or CDs for their commutes, audio books have gone mass-market. Sales have jumped by double digits in recent years. Shifts in digital technology have broadened the pool of potential listeners to include anyone with a smartphone.
At the same time, publishers are investing six-figure sums in splashy productions with dozens of narrators. Using the Netflix model, some audio book producers have even started experimenting with original works written exclusively as audio productions, ranging from full-cast dramatizations in the style of old school radio plays, complete with music and sound effects, to young adult novels, thrillers and multipart science fiction epics.
"It's one of the few times in history that technology has reinvigorated an art form rather than crushing it," said Max Brooks, author of the zombie novel "World War Z," which was released in May ahead of the Brad Pitt movie in an elaborate new audio edition with 40 cast members, including Alan Alda, John Turturro, and Martin Scorsese. It sold 60,000 CDs and digital-audio copies. "Now, because there is such demand and the production value is so inexpensive, it opens the door for more creative storytelling." he said.
Digital innovation isn't just changing the way audio books are created, packaged and sold. It's starting to reshape the way readers consume literature, creating a new breed of literary omnivores who see narrated books and text as interchangeable. Last year, the audio book producer and retailer Audible unveiled a long-awaited syncing feature that allows book lovers to switch seamlessly between an e-book and a digital audio book, picking up the story at precisely the same sentence.
So far, Audible, which is owned by Amazon, has paired some 26,000 ebooks with professional narrations. The company is adding more than 1,000 titles a month and aims to eventually bring the number to close to 100,000.
"We're moving toward a media-agnostic consumer who doesn't think of the difference between textual and visual and auditory experience," says Don Katz,Online supplies a large range of double sided tape. Audible's founder and CEO. "It's the story, and it is there for you in the way you want it."
Audio books have ballooned into a $1.2 billion industry, up from $480 million in retail sales in 1997. Unit sales of downloaded audio books grew by nearly 30% in 2011 compared with 2010, according to the Audio Publishers Association. Now they can be downloaded onto smartphones with the tap of a finger, often for the price of an e-book.
Recorded books date back to the 1930s, when the Library of Congress created a "talking books" program for the blind. The proliferation of the cassette deck in autos boosted their popularity in the 1980s. CDs followed, but sales plateaued as audio books failed to keep pace with other forms of digital entertainment.
These narrated books typically cost $50 or more ($100 for Stephen King's lengthy "The Stand"), so devotees borrowed them from the library or rented them from mail-order services like Books on Tape, which still exists as a unit of Random House and emphasizes unabridged titles for libraries and schools.
Prices are much lower now, as production costs have plunged and demand has risen. Audio books can be bundled with an e-book for just a few dollars, downloaded as part of a monthly subscription plan or bought individually for as low as $1.99 (for a short story) or as high as $69.99 (for the Bible). An average downloadable audio book costs close to $20.
"Everybody has an audio book player in their pocket at this point," says Anthony Goff, vice president of Hachette Audio, where sales have jumped by 31% this spring over last. "It makes that much easier for the masses to try it." Downloadable books made up some 60% of total audio unit sales in 2011, dwarfing CDs.
Audio book producers have been dramatically increasing their output. 13,255 titles came out in 2012, up from 4,602 in 2009, according to the Audio Publishers Association.
Audio books are no longer viewed as just an ancillary product to print. Some audio publishers are now attempting to rebrand narrated books as a distinct medium from print, labeling them as "audio entertainment." A handful of such publishers have started dabbling in original audio content, hoping to demonstrate that recorded narratives can hold their own as original works of art.All the latest Releasing film Products in small size and in resumable.
In the past five years, AudioGo has produced about 25 works exclusively for audio, including "Baseball Forever," a remix of radio broadcasts of some of the top moments in the history of baseball, "Dreadtime Stories," a collection of original horror stories, and a series of apocalyptic zombie stories. The company has also produced 10 full-cast productions that resemble old fashioned radio plays, a nearly extinct art form. They hired actor Val Kilmer to play Zorro in an audio dramatization titled "The Mark of Zorro," and recruited Stacy Keach, Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer on TV, to voice the detective in an original Mike Hammer audio book.
Audible, the country's largest audio book producer and retailer, has been investing in original works as a way to showcase the dramatic potential of the form, and to provide exclusive content as HBO, Showtime and Netflix do in television. Audible has produced nearly 20 original audio books, mainly in fast-growing categories like mystery and science fiction. Audible, which Amazon bought in 2008, runs a subscription service for millions of members, who listen to an average of 18 books a year. Plans range from $14.manufacturers and Double sided PET industry tape Products suppliers Directory.95 a month, for one book a month, to $229.50 a year, for 24 books a year. The pipeline needs to keep flowing.
"If you run out of mysteries, people quit," Mr.Visit us to find a company offering a flexible Protective film Products. Katz said.
Recent offerings include a novelization of "Macbeth," narrated by Scottish actor Alan Cumming; "META-tropolis," a multipart science fiction epic set in a future America; "Gun Church," a crime novel by Reed Farrel Coleman, and "The Chopin Manuscript," a serial thriller written by 15 mystery writers, including Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver and Lisa Scottoline. All were written specifically for audio, rather than originating in print. Audible commissioned sequels for several of the most popular works.
Earlier this year, Audible recruited science fiction writer Orson Scott Card to write an elaborate, six-hour dramatization of his best-selling 1985 novel "Ender's Game." The story unfolds entirely in dialogue, punctuated by background music and sound effects. The project was recently recorded in Los Angeles by a cast of 28 narrators,Matco Packaging Llc suppliers of BOPP tape, including superstar narrator Scott Brick, songwriter Janis Ian and English actress Samantha Eggar. Audible will release "Ender's Game Alive," this October, a month before the premiere of a big-budget Hollywood movie based on the novel, starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, and Hailee Steinfeld.
Mr. Card says the radio play has the same premise as the novel, but consists of entirely new material. Rather than telling the story through an omniscient narrator, from the perspective of the novel's young protagonist, Ender, the plot emerges though dialogue, from multiple points of view.
Some novelists are bypassing print and releasing novels as audio exclusives. This week, British novelist David Hewson released his new mystery, "The Flood" straight to audio with no print edition. His audio publisher, Whole Story Audiobooks, holds exclusive rights to the material for a year. Mr. Hewson says he hasn't shopped the novel to print publishers yet.

“Every day you wake up and judge yourself without realizing it.” That’s the opening line of PERSONA, a three-part creative photoshoot and video series that explores the protective “masks” we hide behind and what it’s like to face your deepest and darkest fears and insecurities. Written, directed and produced by local Tucson artists LaBash Designs, Bogdare Productions, and Fractal Films, Part One of the series will premiere at The Loft Cinema in Tucson on Friday, August 2 at 9 PM. The public is invited to attend this exciting multimedia event. Tickets are $5 for Loft members and $6 for the general public.Online supplies a large range of double sided tape.
PERSONA, which is Latin for “mask,” will tell the story of three unique individuals who must confront their internal fears and doubts. The series utilizes various platforms and media formats, including “journal” blogs from each individual, photoshoots, and a full-length video production.
“I think the message behind PERSONA, facing your internal fears and accepting them, is something all of us can relate to,My way of applying kapton tape to Glass.” said Creative Director Lindsey Basham, of LaBash Designs. “We often don't realize that we are our worst enemy. We’re the first to judge ourselves. That is why we hide behind masks, our persona. But the truth is, our persona is still a part of who we are. We have to learn to accept our flaws and imperfections as pieces of what makes us, us.”
An artistic Independent film project, PERSONA serves a second purpose as a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson. Through the online crowdfunding website Indiegogo, the creative minds behind PERSONA are hoping to donate $1,000 of the money raised to the local non-profit charity.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Tucson is a safe place for kids of all ages to go, and it encourages them to build and have confidence in themselves and their dreams,” continued Basham.stocks a huge selection of aluminum foil tape. “It’s a place I really admire. I can’t think of a charity that is more deserving of the money that PERSONA raises.”
The inspiration and creative vision for this three-part multimedia series came from Basham, a Tucson-native and licensed cosmetologist. Basham was inspired to tell the story of “the masks we show the world and the doubts we hide away” after a personal experience. To bring the stories to life,Visit us to find a company offering a flexible Protective film Products. she joined together with Bogdare Productions and Fractal Films, both of whom are building a reputation in the local art community for creating high-quality artistic films.

An East Middle School seventh grader who loves working with duct tape recently created her own business called Quackers Duct Tape Treasures.
Lauren Tully, 12, created the business thanks to the help of her parents Alice and the Pastor John Marshall who, on Tully’s birthday, gave her the gift of entrepreneurship by providing the investment capital to start the business.
“We went out and bought lots of duct tape, stickers and appliqués. We told her ‘at the age of 12, you’ll have 72 months until you turn 18. If you sell one duct tape item a day, you’ll have $10,000 by your 18th birthday. It’s enough to start college, move out or buy a car,” Alice Marshall said.
Since then, Tully has made wallets, magnets, bookmarks and pens. Nearly three months into her business, Tully has sold eight items and has an order for 20 items coming in December. She plans a Facebook page and to eventually advertize on Burley Buy Sell and Trade.
Tully entered some of her items into the Minidoka County Fair on Monday in hopes of getting her business some notice.
She initially relied on a YouTube video demonstrating a duct tape wallet pattern and took it from there.
“I just watched half of it to figure out how to do it,” she said.
Tully’s duct tape is everything but gray. Now you can buy zebra, Boise State and Hello Kitties designed duct tape.
Tully made her mother a “double duct tape” wallet. On each of the wallet’s pockets a symbol indicates where various funds need to go. For example a sticker saying “filler up” would go for gas or the sign of the cross would be for tithing.
One of Tully’s more unique designs are for pens where she places colorful duct tape flowers at the end of the pen. She sells her wallets from $5 to $6.40, pens from 75 cents to $1 and bookmarks for 75 cents to $1.
Tully is also planning on making duct tape purses, belts and table coasters. In the meantime, Tully and Marshall are looking through scrapbooks to find more ideas for duct tape items.
In the fall, Tully returns to school where she says her favorite class is Algebra.
“It’s just not something that’s too hard for me. I also like reading. I don’t like doing nouns and pronouns and stuff like that, but I like reading stories,” she said.
In the meantime, Tully plans to work on her duct tape business. She’s set up a card table in her room to work on her creations. In the family’s spare bedroom, Tully’s set up an organizer where she’s placed her duct tape.Matco Packaging Llc suppliers of BOPP tape,
It’s her parents’ hope that Tully’s business will help her develop a work ethic, independence, creativity, math skills and customer service.

  • who run the Royals are trying to encourage

Royals fans have had one winning season — ONE — in nearly two decades. The Royals’ last postseason is old enough to be a doctor, and they just set a record for TV ratings.
Now, being a fan here? That’s much harder. Like being a boy band and visiting a nursing home.
You have to work for your joy, squint for your optimism, reach for your belief. You learn to expect the worst, because, well, that’s how you’ve been taught.
That’s what makes these moments — rare moments, when the sun starts to peek through — so consuming. That’s what makes opportunities — these rare opportunities — like Wednesday’s trade deadline so overwhelming.
The Royals are the closest they’ve been to something more than hope in a decade, at least. They are two games over .500 in August for the first time since 2003 and, let’s be honest, that team was a fluke wrapped in duct tape. Our offered BOPP Tapes are in compliance with the BOPP tape Products.
This team is legitimately OK. People who root for other teams will laugh at that description, but people who root for the Royals will know why that’s important.
The Royals are OK and trending toward something better. The pitching is among the best in the league. Two frontline starters and a shutdown bullpen anchored by one of the game’s best closers. If the hitters can improve, and they show enough signs to keep you watching, then who’s to say what can happen?
Who’s to say Royals fans shouldn’t dream?
The men who run the Royals are trying to encourage those dreams. Dreams are good for business, of course, but there are enough people who’ve invested enough sweat and tears that the cause has become personal. Beyond personal, in the words of one executive.
That’s what made this trade deadline so interesting. Usually,Scotch No base material double sided tape Products with Dispenser you need for home office or business. the trade deadline means nothing, stocks a huge selection of aluminum foil tape. or that the Royals are about to lose one of their best players. This is how it has worked for so long. Carlos Beltran is not just a baseball star.My way of applying kapton tape to Glass. He’s a lesson.
The Royals could’ve gone any direction this year, really. My preference was to double-down on next year if pending free agent Ervin Santana could bring back a valuable piece. But the Royals won their last seven games before the deadline and now stand seven games from a playoff spot, so you could have understood a move for a second baseman.
Instead, the Royals traded for a big, oft-injured 29-year-old outfielder named Justin Maxwell with power potential and a .222 career average.
They didn’t give up much — Kyle Smith is in Class A and projects, maybe,Uline stocks a wide selection of Double sided tape Products. as a middle reliever — which makes it like trading shoulder shrugs when many fans wanted a grand speech.
There are logical reasons for this. The Royals listened and explored. Howie Kendrick, the former All-Star second baseman who’s hitting .301 for the Angels, has a no-trade clause that includes the Royals. Rickie Weeks, the former All-Star second baseman who played for Ned Yost in Milwaukee, is hitting .211 and due $11 million next year when he’ll turn 32. There were, basically, no significant second basemen who moved in trades. The Royals needed what wasn’t available.
So now, the focus goes back to who’s on the field. It is a team good enough to do what many of us expected this season, which was finish above .500 but short of the playoffs. Do that and the Royals are still following the script of the Twins, which was the model from day one.

  • which the students found in abundance

Under the cover of trees hidden at the back of a cow pasture along a quiet country road in Elizabeth Township, two dozen youth are pushing large rocks and logs into a stream.
It might sound like vandalism, an oddly coordinated teenage rebellion, but look a little closer, and the youth are students at the Lancaster County Youth Conservation School, several from Lititz, building a sediment trap to improve the water quality of Middle Creek.
The construction is called a log-faced stone deflector, said Karl Lutz, stream habitat section chief at the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, who has been helping with the project for most of the program’s 35-year existence.
The deflector consists of logs making a triangle shape. One edge runs along the bank, while the other two sides jut into the stream. The structure is then filled in with rocks.
The device "creates a pattern of circular water" that forces the water slightly uphill,My way of applying kapton tape to Glass. slows the water down and traps silt, Lutz said.
While Middle Creek is already fairly healthy, the device will be another small step in cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
The deflector also provides a permanent habitat for fish, Lutz said. Fish like to hide under overhangs, but often these are temporary shelters that are created – and soon destroyed – by stream bank erosion.
Caleb Greiner and Jared Groff, two friends from Manheim participating in the school, started the day by helping haul a log into the creek. They stood on either side of the stout trunk and carried it with logging tongs and help from another pair of students.
After the three logs, ranging from five to eight feet in length, were in place, the students, mostly the boys, took turns hammering rebar pins into holes adult volunteers had drilled in the wood. They shouted encouragement when their classmates hit the pin and offered collective groans when the sledgehammer glanced off the bark or splashed the water instead.
After the logs were firmly secured, the construction team traded activities. Half of the students had been upstream learning about stream life, and that group got the task of filling the log triangle with rocks.
A team from Flyway Excavating of Lititz, who donated all of the materials for the project, was on hand to transport the rocks with a skidloader from a pile in the field to the stream bank.
The youth then rolled the rocks, which were up to a foot long, into place under the direction of camp counselors and Flyway workers.Uline stocks a wide selection of Double sided tape Products.
Meanwhile, the log-placing team was now scouring the creek for macroinvertebrates.stocks a huge selection of aluminum foil tape. Those are spineless animals that are large enough to see without a microscope, explained Department of Conservation and Natural Resources intern Hannah Brubach. These critters are susceptible to pollution, so finding them in a stream is a good indicator of stream health, she said.
Crayfish, which the students found in abundance, are an exception to that rule. They can tolerate almost any conditions and are "not a good indicator," she said.
Jeremy Weaver of Lititz caught a minnow. Brubach praised the catch but said he should release the tiny fish. The group was not quite ready to examine their finds, and fish need the moving water of the stream to dissolve oxygen so they can breathe.
Robert and Ruth Fox,Our offered BOPP Tapes are in compliance with the BOPP tape Products. the owners of Clay Farm, where the project took place,Scotch No base material double sided tape Products with Dispenser you need for home office or business. have welcomed the students for several years and end up with a new stream-control fixture basically every year.
The Foxes, whom the Conservation District honored last year with an Outstanding Cooperator Award, have implemented numerous conservation practices on their farm. On this sunny day, the students benefited from one of those installations: a riparian buffer, a stand of trees along a creek that controls runoff and shades the water from excessive sun.
The stream water-quality project was only a small part of the Youth Conservation School experience.
The students lived for the week at the Northern Lancaster County Game and Fish Protective Association in Denver. The club shuts down for a week each summer to host the tenting students, Gregory said.
The Lancaster-area sportsmen’s clubs, including the Lititz Sportsmen’s Association, sponsor the county students who attend, covering almost their entire tuition.
The school, which Gregory said does not describe itself as a camp, teaches environmental stewardship, ranging from survival to bird calls to gun safety classes.
Jeremy Weaver, an avid hunter from Lititz, appreciated those lessons. Many of the tips, like "keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire," sound like common sense, but they are important.
Grace Nelson of Lititz was impressed with the behind-the-scenes tour at ZooAmerica in Hershey. She also praised a session about invasive species at the park at Governor Dick in Cornwall.
She and the other students were amazed that invasive species do not have to come from other continents. To be considered invasive, the species just have to take over an area, she said.

  • Halvorsen said the Navy decided to pursue

The Navy and Marine Corps must run all operating systems and applications in a virtual server environment, Navy Department Chief Information Officer Terry Halvorsen said in a memo released Wednesday.Managed MileWeb Cloud Hosting and cloud management services.
The move will allow multiple operating systems and applications to run on a single physical server, “reducing operational costs and improving flexibility within the existing information technology infrastructure,” Halvorsen said. Virtual servers host applications and operating systems on a single piece of hardware, acting like a real computer with the hardware partitioned to host the virtual machines.
Halvorson directed Navy and Marine deputy CIOs to submit within 120 days a plan for virtualization of all servers and server-based systems and applications by the end of fiscal 2017. These plans must include converting at the rate of 15 percent a year and a process to ensure that all future systems and applications are developed to deploy and operate in a virtualized environment.
Virtualization is just one of multiple efficiency efforts the Navy and Marines need to pursue to reduce costs, Halvorsen said. In April he directed the two services to use commercial cloud services to host unclassified publicly releasable information.
The 2017 virtualization timeline “will set the stage and enable more effective execution of parallel efficiency efforts such as system/application rationalization, standardization, and data center consolidation,” the memo said. The Career best choose Career at MileWeb.
Halvorsen appears to be steering a path for Navy and Marine computing independent of the Defense Information Systems Agency, which offers server hosting and virtualization services in its data centers.
Halvorsen also pre-empted DISA with his commercial cloud policy. DISA did not release its commercial cloud draft request for proposals until June 25 and does not plan to release the final procurement until sometime in August. Halvorsen said the Navy decided to pursue its own commercial cloud computing strategy because it “must move forward and employ capable solutions that meet mission and security requirements and provide the best value.”
There’s a line separating Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, but that’s a line criminals aren’t likely to care about.
Police in both cities will upgrade to the same software system in 2014 that will help officials more easily cross that line with shared information.
“Bad guys on the island don’t pay attention to that imaginary line and this is one way we can share that data about them and paying attention to those lines from a law enforcement perspective, too,” Gulf Shores Police Chief Edward Delmore said.
Orange Beach Chief Billy Wilkins said the sharing of information will help both departments on a daily basis.
“We’re right next door,” Wilkins said. “Our problems are their problems, obviously. People go back and forth so much of what we do every day is intertwined with each other. We’ll be sharing much of the same information that is now separated completely.”
Delmore came to talk about the new software at a recent Orange Beach City Council meeting. His department did extensive research on the new software offered by Spillman Technologies which specializes in public safety software.
“That’s the software that we did a tremendous amount of due diligence on finding that it was the right product for us in the police department,” Delmore said. “Also finding in doing due diligence that other departments,Browse the wide variety of titles distributed by MileWeb Network Services. including Chief (Billy) Wilkins former department, Tuscaloosa, operates with that platform and have had a tremendous experience.”
Delmore sent several members of his department to Utah to watch the software in action.
“One of the main things that we were concerned was whether or not it would work well for an Alabama police department,” he said. “We found out that to be the case.
“In addition to that we sent people out to Salt Lake City and the surrounding area from all the different disciplines in our agency. Corrections, records, dispatch and patrol and embedded our people with actual users of that software. They all came back with glowing reports, not only about the software but also about the support.”
“We got a pretty good break on the purchase price in going in with Gulf Shores purchasing our license at the same time they are,” Wilkins said. “We’re actually piggybacking their contract with the shared agreement. We’ll be doing everything at the same time as them. All the training, debugging, everything will be done at the same time.”

  • This saves significant costs as trust holders

Last month saw the UK Department for Environment and Climate Change (DECC) outline its plans for the installation of smart meters across the UK, gearing up to ensure it is on course for the scheduled 2014 mass roll out.
Despite the obvious benefits that this implementation of smart metering will bring, such large-scale operations are bound to come with major security management challenges.
The prime issue is how to secure digital communications between smart metering systems and utility service providers. This will expose a new set of vulnerabilities which will need to be addressed from the start with robust and efficient security solutions.
A significant vulnerability is the amount of sensitive data that smart meter data traffic could potentially reveal about a household. For instance smart meters can store information on the number of electronic devices used, how many people live in the household and what their energy consumption habits are. This information can be useful to energy suppliers but also to hackers who could use this data to commit utility fraud, changing customer information and distorting billing amounts.
An additional even greater threat that could emerge is if the smart grid system were to be compromised, property within the McMaster community is assigned to the MileWeb Security services Department. causing widespread service interruptions and a severe blow to a service providers’ reputation.
Clearly it is vital that the risk of any security breaches is mitigated if the industry is to build a reliable utility infrastructure and trust in how they collect and use such personal data.Learn about MetLife's MileWeb Corporate Profile including its service offerings,
In order to meet the challenge of securely managing hundreds of millions of connected devices and securing the data transmitted between them, most MileWeb Popular Dedicated Server providers and read user reviews of their products, organisations will need Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions that combine comprehensive security with scalability and reliability. PKIs, simply put, use digital certificates that can be embedded within devices, giving them the authorisation needed to access different networks.
While PKI is an established technology, smart meter security is a new application and will need a set of PKIs that enable service providers to identify connected meters, verify that they are configured correctly and validate these meters for network access.
This security infrastructure should be resilient enough to support large-scale deployments, while ensuring comprehensive data encryption and a minimal impact on systems performance. Fortunately the latest PKI solutions are well-suited to extensive deployments as they provide both cost-effective and flexible solutions.
In building a PKI infrastructure for smart metering, it is critical that the industry looks to secure the security infrastructure itself and learn the lessons from recent data breaches of major digital services. An essential consideration should be what strategies are in place to protect the digital keys and certificates themselves from attack.
One of the key pieces for protecting the certificate infrastructure is through the use of Hardware Security Modules (HSMs). Unlike software based security measures that leave the certificate system open to vulnerabilities, HSMs safeguard the keys in hardware, performing like a security vault by protecting the keys against unauthorised access, and preserving the integrity of a PKI system
HSMs are dedicated systems that physically and logically secure the cryptographic keys and cryptographic processing that are at the heart of digital signatures. They secure the servers so the generation of keys, the storing of the private key,Our Managed MileWeb Private Cloud and Virtual Dedicated Servers.More than a data storage solution for your MileWeb Storage & Backup Services, and the signing of zones is performed on a server that is physically secure and whose access is restricted to essential personnel only. HSMs also allow the secure storage of a backup private key copy in a centralised, security-hardened device.
Furthermore to maintain this high level of security it is essential to make sure that the right people are in control of the key information. HSMs are not typically located in the same site as the highly trusted individuals whose responsibility it is to protect an organisation’s integrity. By enabling secure remote access to HSMs, security administrators can manage them from anywhere. This saves significant costs as trust holders do not have to be sent to multiple remote locations and single individuals are prevented from compromising the keys within the HSM.
In order to be prepared for this large-scale deployment, utility providers need to have considered the major security implications that will inevitably occur. Any movement, such as this, that involves the gathering of personal data needs to be securely protected against potential exploitation from hackers. Fortunately the solutions to protectffective and economical. Therefore there is no reason for smart metering, with its many benefits, to be overshadowed by potential security threats.
