  • who is project worker at the club

It’s amazing what you can do when a curtain and blinds company agrees to donate old pattern books and fabric samples to you, members of Mullingar’s 1428 Club have demonstrated.
At The Atrium in the Westmeath County Council offices,These low cost RFID key tags could be Custom RFID key tag. club members have an exhibition that shows the use they made of the materials donated by Dunne and Nugent, of Lough Sheever Business Park.
Olive Power, who is project worker at the club – an active retirement group that is based in Bishopsgate Street in Mullingar – reveals that they were thrilled to get the items donated.
Out of them, 30 members created 50 squares of artwork, each measuring 30x30cm, which form a major part of the exhibition, which is on display until July 12.
“This was done for the Festival of Creative Art for Older people,” says Olive.
“The challenge was to produce square pieces of art work, and people really used their imagination,” she says, adding that before embarking on the project and deciding on the type of project Mullingar would like to engage in, members examined the types of projects that have been done by other groups in similar challenges.
“But what we came up with was specific to the 1428 Club,” says Olive.
Applique, sewing, cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, crochet, and in some works, a mixture of methods, were used to create the pieces.
“Each piece was important to the person who made it.
For example, one lady used some left-over material from making a First Communion dress, and decorated it with buttons and bows.
“We also have a Mayo woman in the group, and her piece was knit in the Mayo colours.Give your logo high visibility on Promotional Luggage Tags! Then one woman made hers with her granddaughter.
“Home and garden feature strongly, because these are among the things that are important to people, and we invite people to come to The Atrium and see them.”
Also on display were a selection of paintings by members of the art classes run through the 1428 Club, and club staff member, Debbie Daly, told the gathering at The Atrium that the club is a busy place, five days a week, frequented by members of Mullingar’s active retired community.
“We do everything from the simple and sedate to the more energetic activities,” she said. The wall-hangings on display were, she said, the fruits of several weeks’ work by the members.
“All of this has been done on zero budget, simply because we don’t have the funds to put in it: we get no non-wage funding,” she said, going on to praise Dunne and Nugent for their help.We carry an assortment of wholesale stainless steel necklace,
Debbie revealed that during the exercise, a “core group” emerged, who were retired seamstresses and machinists, and they were the people who took on the extra work involved in finishing the pieces.
“This is a showcase for the 1428 Club and it shows what any community group can do on a zero budget. If we can do it, so can you.”
A benefit of the challenge had been, Debbie added, that many people had made new friends through it.
Officially opening the display, Cllr Johnny Penrose, cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, said the art on display was a true measure of the talent each of the participants possessed, and which might not have been discovered were it not for their participation in the 1428 Club.
“I want to commend the work of the 1428 Active Retirement Club which has been serving the actively retired of Mullingar and surrounding areas since 1998,” he said.
“The variety of activities which they organise, from computer classes to coffee mornings and indeed arts classes, is to be admired.
“I am aware that the club also operates as a drop-in for actively retired people who may just want the cuppa with a friendly chat,Cheap custom printed logo USB flash drives wholesale at wholesale bulk prices. or to do a bit of reading in their library,With its bright and Custom 3D Lenticular card images, or a bit of advice on how to apply for that home adaptation grant.”

  • who sees me every six weeks

This will be my first child. I wasn’t always driven to have kids but I always liked children. I got married quite late and this has fitted in really well.
I work full-time as a PA. I feel more comfortable having a baby now than I would have done even in my late 30s. I enjoyed life, did lots of travelling and had lots of fun. For me this is the right time. It feels more settled; career-wise I’m more established and financially I’m not worrying about where money’s going to come from.
I’m planning to have an epidural. I’m not an “earth mother” – I’m happy to take the hardcore drugs and have a pain-free delivery. I did the NCT classes with girls who were obviously a lot younger, so I expected them to breeze through their births, but a few of them had to have emergency caesareans.
So far my pregnancy has been without complication. They’ve looked at me as high-risk because of my age but I’ve been low-risk all the way through. I’m being monitored now because, being an older mother, there are risks regarding the oxygen supply to the baby. But I think I would know if something was wrong. You can feel what’s going on with your baby.
I have an obstetrician who sees me every six weeks and a midwife appointment once a month. I know lots of people can’t get appointments but I’ve had no problems at all.
So far, we’ve spent about £2,000 on baby stuff. The most expensive part was the pram, which was £800. I thought about buying things second-hand but decided to buy everything new.
I’ve been reading the NHS website. A weekly email comes in and tells you what week you’re at and how your baby is progressing, and I’ve got Gina Ford’s Contented Baby book which has got a lot of good things in.
The current official advice is to have your baby in your room for six months. I say six weeks, and Gina Ford says not at all. I like the idea that it can relate to the fact that its room is its room and that that’s where it sleeps.
I’ve already got some ideas about the baby’s education. The state schools in Kent are particularly good but I’m also going to look at private schools. I’m looking for an all-round type of education.
Childcare is expensive but it’s something I will look into. I’m not sure yet whether I’ll go back to work full or part-time.Shop the best selection of stainless steel pendant.Men's wholesale stainless steel ring are very sturdy and will stand the test of time. I’m quite keen to be around more than not, to be the main carer, but it depends how I feel. I also assume I’ll go back to work but things might change once I’ve had the baby.
My parents had to work when I was little so I had my grandparents to look after me, whereas I have an elderly mother and my in-laws live in Leicestershire, so unless I can leave the baby there for weeks at a time that’s not an option.
Whatever happens I still like shopping for myself and having a bit of my own life. I’m definitely going to be keeping me as me, not becoming just a mum.
Reportedly, the new development has led her husband and actor Dileep, who was the brand ambassador of the jewellery for the past four years, to step down from the post.
While rumours that the star couple is all set to file a petition for divorce has been doing the rounds for some time now, news that Manju has been signed on by the brand that Dileep endorses, further drove a wedge between the two. It's being alleged that an extremely upset Dileep has sent the brand a letter asking them to remove the ads and hoardings featuring him.
According to a source close to the actor, "Initially, the brand had approached both Dileep and Manju to do a joint shoot for the commercial. But Dileep was not too keen on it. He had even informed them that if Manju is on board, he won't continue as their brand ambassador." However, the brand went ahead and signed up Manju for the ad with Big B. "So obviously, Manju might just replace Dileep as the jewellery's brand ambassador," adds the source.Shop unique Custom paper card with modern style and vibrant colors. With Dileep allegedly threatening to step down just because his wife is roped in for the campaign, rumours about their reported marital discord only gets stronger.
However, when we contacted, Kalyanaraman, managing director of the jewellery brand, he informed us that he is unaware of any such development. "As of now, Dileep continues to be our brand ambassador. So far, we haven't received any letter from him. Neither do we know about his decision to quit as our brand ambassador." When asked if Manju will replace Dileep as their brand ambassador, he said, "We haven't spoken to her about being our brand ambassador.where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder." He also informs us that Manju will essay the role of Bachchan's daughter in the commercial, which will be aired for Onam.

  • who own a big jewellery showroom

Frank and Carola Frischauf have a very basic list of ingredients for their sausages - pork (or veal). If it isn't pork (or veal), inside a natural casing, it doesn't have a place in the sausages they are now selling at the Saturday morning market at Taipa Area School, which rather negates the not uncommon question as to whether they are gluten-free.
"Why would anyone put flour in their sausages?" Frank asked as he turned another batch on his charcoal barbecue.
The couple , originally from Jena, in the state of Thuringen,Molded Soft PVC coaster with your custom design and colors. the 'Green Heart of Germany,' worked in Auckland after arriving in New Zealand, but moved to Doubtless Bay two years ago for the lifestyle it offers, the chance to spend more time together and to indulge in a passion for making sausages.
Frank is a plumber/roofer by trade, while Carola is now working as a dental nurse at Doubtless Bay. But it is artisan bread, olive oil and meat products, and their Sunrise B&B; at Mangonui, that fulfil them these days.
"We lived in Auckland for 12 years to make money, and now we live at Mangonui for the lifestyle," Frank said.
"Here we can live off the land and get back to our roots."
The quality of food was important to them too - "We need to know what we are putting in our mouths," he said - in an age when price often seemed to be the determinant factor when it came to diet.
The couple are now regulars at the Taipa market, which continues to grow and now boasts commodities ranging from locally-made organic olive oil, organic fruit and veg, organic honey, preserves, plants and cakes to crafts including woven silk, recycled glass and metal jewellery, wool pillows and cushions, not to mention soap nuts.
The source said in another conversation around the same time, Rauf is heard insisting that Pawan send the bill for the gold chain or else Rauf would have problems with customs.
The bills for this package as well as two other parcels sent later with gifts for Rauf are with the Mumbai crime branch. In May, the crime branch seized the two parcels containing branded shoes, clothes and other personal effects sent by bookie Prem Taneja to Rauf from Delhi airport's cargo section. The umpire, sensing trouble, had fled barely a day before Vindu's arrest on May 22 without collecting them.
Vindu is also accused of helping bookie-siblings Pawan and Sanjay Chabra alias Pawan and Sanjay Jaipur flee Mumbai at the height of the crackdown on the betting-fixing rackets.
The crime branch on Wednesday had prepared to strongly oppose the applications moved by the absconding brothers for anticipatory bail, but the court adjourned the matter to July 3.
Senior lawyer Adhik Shirodkar, who appeared for the brothers who own a big jewellery showroom, Motison Jewellers, in Jaipur, pleaded that the police be at least directed to withdraw the lookout notices issued against the duo so that they could return to the country.
The court refused, saying there was no hurry and a decision would be taken after the court has gone through the evidence.
Opposing the bail, manufacturers and Double sided PET industry tape Products suppliers Directory. the crime branch said since Rauf is not available for interrogation, they need to grill the brothers, who have given the umpire expensive gifts, to uncover their roles in the cricket scandal.
"These two bookies were in touch with Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf and had even paid his shopping bills in the country. They also reportedly own a benami stake in the Sri Lanka Premier League," said an officer.
Police said the Chabras fled to Dubai immediately after Vindu alerted them about Mumbai Police raiding super bookie Ramesh Vyas's betting den at Kalbadevi. Our offered BOPP Tapes are in compliance with the BOPP tape Products.

  • If the desk and work chair look out of place

Having a workspace in your living room isn’t necessarily a problem, said R. Lela Bourne,Handy Pocket Mirror with hinged lid that doubles as a stand. a real estate agent with Bond New York. “But it depends on presentation.”
If the workspace is organized and tidy, and blends well into the rest of the living room, she said,This vertical Cable Organizer can be mounted to either. it’s usually fine. But cut down on clutter. “You want to get rid of any extraneous papers or books that don’t need to be on display,” she said.
Similarly, she recommended making cords from computers and other electronic devices as unobtrusive as possible, to make the space pleasing to the eye.
If the desk and work chair look out of place, or appear to take up too much of the living room, it can be a challenge, Ms. Bourne said, “because buyers don’t always have imagination.”
In that case, she suggests presenting alternative floor plans or photos of similar spaces to prospective buyers, so they can see other ways to arrange things.
Another option, said Rodman Primack, owner of the New York interior design firm RP Miller, would be to replace your office furniture with multifunctional pieces. For instance, he said, “I frequently use tables instead of desks,” in home workspaces. The advantage is that they can double as dining or game tables when not used for work. “Once you’ve committed yourself to a desk with a back and drawers,” he said, “you’ve limited what that piece of furniture can do.”
Mr. Primack recently followed his own advice when he moved his New York office into his Greenwich Village apartment. Because he has a staff, he installed an oversize table that provides a large enough work surface for four people.Shop wholesale Antistatic PET protective film Products from cheap Pet Protective. “I don’t have very many people over for dinner,” he said. “But I definitely could, around that table. Or I could have a bar or buffet there.”
The key, he said, is to have an efficient storage system for all the files and other materials that can otherwise make a workspace look cluttered.Buy Promotional Anti-scratching PET protective film Products at Phones. “You can file stuff away in binders,” he said. “If you have old binders that look like they’re from high school, it’s not going to look great.”
For larger items that need to be stashed at the end of the day, he said, try cloth-covered boxes or wire baskets. All those binders, boxes and baskets can then be stored neatly on bookshelves.
Far from being an eyesore, a home workspace “can look incredibly attractive,” Mr. Primack said. “If you spend the time to think it through.”
Inspired by a textbook ride to win the Group One Prince Of Wales's Sakes aboard Al Kazeem, Doyle coaxed a recalcitrant Belgian Bill to victory in the Royal Hunt Cup before setting Rizeena alight in the Queen Mary Stakes.

"It is what you aspire to when you are growing up, so it makes me very happy to be standing here after a day like today. I still haven't taken it all in and I suspect it will be some time before I do. It is what you dream about."
Doyle served up his piece de resistance in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes after Paul Hanagan threatened to steal the day's feature race.Buy Silicone IPAD Case at wholesale prices from leading Chinese wholesalers,
When Hanagan kicked for home on reaching the straight aboard Mukhadram, Doyle was the first to react - and the only one to overhaul Hanagan.
It took just about every yard of the Ascot straight for Doyle to reel in Hanagan, yet the jockey dismounted from Al Kazeem to proclaim: "I always felt I was going to win."
Trainer Roger Charlton was not so sure. "I thought for much of it that we weren't going to get there but James came back and told me he never had any doubts. I'm so pleased for him. He's a young guy who hasn't yet ridden too many good horses, yet he handled the occasion perfectly."
Al Kazeem gave Doyle his first European Group 1 winner when he mastered last year's double Derby winner Camelot in Ireland last month. The latter's connections were optimistic their horse might turn the tables but Al Kazeem extended his superiority as Camelot laboured home in fourth place.

  • who resent the power of the Orthodox Church

A gold and diamonds merchant from Haryana has alleged that jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh was stolen from him when he put the bag containing the valuables on the scanning machine at the Chandni Chowk Metro station for security check.
Ravinder Soni (30) was on his way to catch a train and the theft was reported about 4.30 pm on Tuesday.
Delhi Police has taken up the matter with DMRC and CISF who have been requested to conduct checking of luggage on the scanner only after physical checking of passengers is over so that they are in a position to watch over their own articles.

DCP (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia said Soni usually travelled to wholesale jewellery markets in Old Delhi to procure items. "He told us three youth tried to throw ice-cream (kulfi) on his clothes in order to distract him when he was on his way from the market to station. We believe he was followed by the accused to the station. They finally got the opportunity to rob him at the scanner and made good," a senior police officer said. A case has been registered.
CCTV footage of the area has been analyzed and DMRC has been asked to hand over the raw footage to police. "A man is seen walking away confidently with the laptop bag in which Soni had kept the jewellery," the officer said.
The police investigation will also take into account whether there was any lapse by CISF personnel posted at the Chandni Chowk station that contributed to the crime.
Trivoulides is a sculptor who studied art history and classics, and these days, he is living his passion.
Along with a few thousand others he is taking part in the Prometheia festival, which celebrates the ancient Greek hero Prometheus, who helped humans by stealing fire from the gods.
It's the most important annual festival for followers of The Return of the Hellenes - a movement trying to bring back the religion, values, philosophy and way of life of ancient Greece, more than 16 centuries after it was replaced by Christianity.
These people consider Greece to be a country under Christian occupation.Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal.
"People want to identify with something in the past - where they came from - so as to know where they are going," says Trivoulides. "If you don't know your past, you don't have a future.
"It's going back to the roots. It makes me feel the continuation through the millennia."
The festival begins with six runners - in full Greek battle gear - racing the six miles (10 km) up Mount Olympus, home of the gods, their shields and long spears clanking as they go.
But as they set out from the small village of Dion at the base of the mountain, passersby hardly seem to notice - they are used to them.
The economic crisis in Greece should be a time of reflection about the values that should govern a society, he says.
The Return of the Hellenes focus on the 12 main gods of ancient Greece - the dodecatheon.
They don't actually pray to Zeus, Hera and the others. They see them as symbols of values such as beauty, health or wisdom.
The followers are an odd mix. There are New Age types who revere ancient traditions, leftists who resent the power of the Orthodox Church, and Greek nationalists who see Christianity as having destroyed everything that was truly Greek.
As the modern-day ancients relax in their camp at the base of the mountain, a few sell philosophy books, CDs, food and jewellery. Some wear modern clothes, others togas, and a few sport a wreath.
Over the course of the three-day event, there are public prayers, two marriages, and a naming ceremony, where followers choose an ancient name - like Calisto,Worldwide leader in PET protective film Products and Coated Papers. The Amistad captives have come alive again, thanks to a bundle of letters that went public on Wednesday.
The letters, written in the 1840s by a young woman in Farmington whose family took in one of the former captives, are on display at the Connecticut Historical Society. The society won a bidding war for the letters in March, paying $66,000 at auction.

  • Every business is governed by business laws

NATIONAL Security Minister Bernard Nottage said yesterday that he wanted ‘Cash for Gold’ enterprises to be closed down, a move one operator said would only hurt Bahamians legitimately selling or pawning jewellery to “make ends meet”.
During his contribution to the 2013-2014 Budget debate, Mr Nottage said many ‘caah for gold’ operators war not living up to their responsibilities as outlined in legislation governing the industry.
“There’s a lot of crime associated with gold,This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool. with people snatching people’s gold chains, with people breaking into home and taking their jewellery and stealing,” the Minister said.
“When these stores were licensed I think there were certain requirements they were required to meet when they exchanged money for gold. My information is they are not living up to those responsibilities when they exchange money for gold, and so the person who is selling you something ought to prove they are the owners of it. Bring receipts to show they paid for it before you can do a legitimate business exchange with them - that is not happening.”
But Cheldin Brown, operator of Bahamas Gold Trading, told Tribune Business: “I have two stores and I have a good relationship with the police, but if other people are out there buying stolen jewellery there’s nothing we can do about it.
“Before you call for our businesses to close down you should at least have a Town Meeting or a private meeting with ‘cash for gold’ owners to try and solve the crime.
“You have to take into consideration that we are businesses, we have bills to pay and family to take care of, so how could you just jump and take the bread out of our mouth just like that. We never had one meeting with the Commissioner of Police or the Minister of National Security about the issue or anything at all.”
Mr Brown added: “A lot of people hear the negative rap bit, not the positive. The jewellery is basically always here, so if the police want to check and see if it’s stolen they are always welcome to.
“Many of the people who come in are people facing hard economic times and are basically selling or pawning their jewellery to simply make ends meet.
“I just feel like basically he is trying to use it more like a scapegoat. Even if he does it, it won’t stop anything. Every business is governed by business laws. There are ways that you can keep a business in check, which the Bill outlines, so it isn’t like the businesses are running without a Bill or an outdated Bill; this was just drafted by the last government.”
Mr Brown added that the supply of gold is not as high as in the past. “Business is up and down. It isn’t the type if business where you’re going to make a whole lot of money. The price of gold has dropped drastically, so there isn’t even much profit in the business; you might make more just pawning the jewellery for a short-term loan,” he said.
Several observers yesterday questioned why Mr Nottage was so quick to single out the ‘Cash for Gold’ and copper industries when, unlike the web shop sector, their activities are covered by specific legislation and regulations.
They pointed out that the issue harked back to the Bahamas’ age old problem: Enforcement of existing laws.customized letter logo Soft PVC bottle opener with magnet.
The Pawnbrokers and Second-Hand Dealers Act 2011 imposes upon a business owner or dealers the duty and responsibility to verify the identity of customers, maintain records and keep certain items in an unaltered state for specified periods.
The Bill also empowers a police officer, acting on reasonable suspicion,This is a universal black magic Cell phone anti-slip mat. to enter a dealer’s premises and request the production of all articles in possession of that dealer for inspection, and request the production of copies of records required to be kept by the dealer.
Mr Nottage said persons were stealing “hundreds of thousands of dollars” worth of copper just to for export from the Bahamas, and that he wanted a ban placed on the industry until the situation could be controlled.

  • When flights travel to forward operating bases

Rifle at the ready, eyes watchful and wary, sweat beads form on their brows and trickle down their chins, exhaust fumes and gritty sand fills their noses, words can barely be heard over the whine of engines, yet the Airmen of the 455th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron's Fly-Away Security Teams maintain a constant vigil over the aircraft, personnel and cargo coming in and out of the airfield here.
FAST members are required to fly on specific missions, to certain locations, to ensure the aircraft and crew are protected from hostile fire or on-board security breaches.
"If the aircrew is safe, they can focus on their mission," said Airman Brandon Gibson, a 455th ESFS FAST team member. "This just helps everything run more smoothly."
Gibson is deployed from Hector Air Field, Fargo, N.D., which is also his hometown. Even though the schedules can be unpredictable, with various show times and unknown mission duration, Gibson said he wouldn't have it any other way.
"I have the sweetest mission on base," he said. "I like traveling and interacting with career fields other than security forces."
The missions requiring FAST members can vary from carrying hazardous materials, personnel under control, medical units and mission-essential personnel. When flights travel to forward operating bases with limited airfield security, the FAST members play a vital role in protecting Air Force assets.
"We're in a hostile country, and we're the sole protectors of a multi-million dollar aircraft," said Senior Airman Michael Bullen, a 455th ESFS FAST team member.Choose from a large selection of Customized Silicone Bracelets to raise awareness. "We're really the only people protecting the crew, and protecting the mission.with Wholesale Cheap Custom Keychain and promotional key tags."
Bullen is also deployed from Hector Air Field, N.D.,A plastic IC card containing a computer chip and enabling. and hails from Minot, N.D. The protection FAST members provide exists both on and off the aircraft. During the flight, the two-person team executes flight-deck denial; upon touchdown, they exit the aircraft and provide 360 degree security and overwatch during the unloading and reloading of cargo and passengers.
"I love to fly," Bullen said. "I love being in the air and still doing our mission."
He explained how he enjoys the interaction and cooperation with the aircrews.
"It's more than just saying 'hello' when I check your ID at the gate in the morning," he joked.
The respect and appreciation is mutual between the FAST members and aircrew.
"They are definitely an asset to the team," said 1st Lt. Whitt Hollis, a 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron C-130 Hercules co-pilot. "It's peace of mind knowing we have riflemen outside the plane providing security."
Hollis is a Denver, Colo., native and is deployed from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. He explained the importance of the FAST members to missions, especially in hostile areas.
"They help provide more situational awareness when we're on the ground," Hollis said. "They're all highly motivated and professional. As intense as the job is, they're able to keep a cool head."
A student whose body was found in a barrel on a Clare farm was the victim of a violent and sustained assault and died of severe, extensive trauma to his head, a court has heard.
State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy was giving evidence to the Central Criminal Court in the trial of a 33-year-old farmer charged with murdering the student on his farm two years ago.
Joe Heffernan of Cappagh Beg, Barefield, Ennis has pleaded not guilty to murdering 21-year-old Eoin Ryan at that address on June 7, 2011. The body of the Law student from Newhall, Clare was found on Mr Heffernan’s farm that morning.
Prof Cassidy testified today that she carried out a post-mortem exam on Mr Ryan’s body. She said that death was due to severe and extensive trauma to his head and that blunt force trauma to his neck and chest was a contributory factor.
“He was the victim of a violent and sustained assault. He received several blows to his head,” she said.
“The skull had been broken up into small pieces, some of them missing,” she continued, adding that there was non-survivable damage to the deceased man’s brain.
Prof Cassidy said that multiple fractures of Mr Ryan’s facial bones were likely caused by a large, heavy object.
She said that injuries to the left side of his head suggested that they were received while the right side of his head was on the ground.
She said that his breastbone was fractured, something that would have required ‘considerable force’.where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder.
The pathologist explained that there was also extensive blunt trauma to his neck and upper chest, with a crush injury to his heart and tares to his oesophagus and windpipe. These were also potentially fatal injuries, she added.
She said there were potentially defensive injuries to both hands but added that, given the extent of his injuries, he was probably rendered unconscious very rapidly and unable to defend himself.
“It’s likely that more than one weapon caused the injuries,” she said.
She was shown a number of objects found and the scene, where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder. including a socket wrench, meat clever and crow bar. She said the injuries to the top of the head were probably caused by the meat clever.
She said that the injuries to his face and chest could have been caused by a concrete block being dropped on them. She said she had also examined fragments of concrete blocks found at the scene.
She confirmed to Patrick Gageby SC, defending, that he also said he could see the devil’s eyes flashing at him.
She said that he could never accept his father’s leukaemia and subsequent death the previous year, and had broken rosary beads when he learned that his father was going to die.
She agreed that she still set a place for his father at the table after his death ‘for a quiet life’.
“He always used to be up at the grave. He used to be there at night. He had a chair up there,” she said. “He was going to dig it up on a couple of occasions.”
She agreed that he had an interest in communicating across the spiritual divide and in the hereafter.
She said she had taken him to the doctor and to a psychiatrist, who wrote him a prescription, but he didn’t improve.

  • If these artifacts really were the hallmark

The development of art, culture, and advanced cognitive ability that define modern humans may not have evolved until 50,000 years ago, according to a new study published online Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Richard Klein of Stanford University, the senior author of the study, believes that modern humans evolved at the same time that they left Africa to populate Eurasia and the rest of the world.Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bangle Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets.
According to his theory, the cultural innovations led to an increase in fitness for the fledgling human species, spurring a major population expansion.
A competing theory is that humans evolved into their modern form earlier and their population increased gradually until they outstripped their resources around 50,000 years ago, when they indisputably left Africa. Proponents of this theory cite the appearance of proto-jewelry and art in South Africa 85,000 to 65,000 years ago as evidence that humans were already fully modern by that time, with their own system of communication and rudimentary culture.
Klein decided to test the “modern humans early” vs. “modern humans late” hypothesis by examining ancient population size, with the expectation that the emergence of modern humans should be correlated with a boom in population.
Estimating populations from so long ago is no easy matter, but Klein and other zooarchaeologists have found an unorthodox way of doing so — examining the remains of the animals humans ate.
“Food is the basis of everything; you have to eat to survive,” said Teresa Steele, a zooarchaeologist and paleoanthropologist at UC Davis, who worked on the study with Klein. “We can use things like animal bones and mollusks [shells] to reconstruct ancient subsistence practices.”
In the late 1970s, Klein began comparing the sizes of different shellfish found in archaeological deposits in South Africa. The shellfish were part of early humans’ diet, found by the thousand in ancient trash heaps along with the bones of other animals such as seals, antelopes, and zebras.
He noticed a general pattern — the younger sites contained smaller shells. After finding similar results in Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, and California, zooarchaeologists concluded that the smaller shells were a sign of larger human populations that had depleted the larger animals and moved on to smaller prey.
For the National Academy of Sciences study, Klein and Steele measured the size of thousands of limpet and turban shells -- two of the most commonly hunted shellfish groups -- from archaeological sites on the south and west coasts of South Africa. Evidence of early art and jewelry, such as shells with holes and fragments of ocher rock, had been recovered in the same area, suggesting the emergence of modern human behavior.
“The implication would be that people were already behaving in a modern way, where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder. making jewelry and art 75,000 years ago, which is 25,000 years before the out-of-Africa expansion,” Klein said.
Klein and Steele found what they expected — shells were generally smaller in Late Stone Age deposits than in Middle Stone Age deposits, reflecting growth in the human population over that time.
But shell size remained constant during the Middle Stone Age, implying that the early human populations also remained constant, even as they developed the earliest forms of jewelry and art.
The finding supported Klein’s hypothesis that humans did not become fully modern until their population expansion that accompanied the African exodus 50,000 years ago.
Klein thinks the finding also casts doubt on the significance of the early jewelry and art.The oldest bobble head provider - original handmade www.ownfigurine.com Head dolls made to look like the photo you provide to us. Given that few pieces have been found — one in tens of thousands of ocher rocks had any significant patterning — perhaps the objects have been mistaken as art.
“If you look at the jewelry, it’s not very compelling, not very impressive,” he said.Cheap custom printed logo USB flash drives wholesale at wholesale bulk prices. “There are tiny pieces of shells about the size of your thumbnail that have holes in them. The holes are not clearly made by tools, but they could be beads. Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t .… Whether these things are art or jewelry really is in the eye of the beholder.”
Klein has some trouble believing that the artifacts represent any great innovation symbolic of modern human society. If these artifacts really were the hallmark of a society with art and culture, and the people in South Africa were modern humans by 75,000 years ago,The smart card has a memory chip embedded in it that, why didn’t they expand to Europe then? Why did they wait another 25,000 years?

  • seductive and ever so slightly sinister

It's getting cold, so it's not surprising we have had some tips recently about a problem that has occupied the minds of humans since fires were invented - how to start them easily.
M.S. from Maungaturoto has this idea which was picked up from a friend. "We collect our used toilet rolls and use them to light our log burner. It saves kindling and helps us get rid of waste cardboard, one less box to the recycling station."
Other fire starting ideas we received include dried orange peel, dried tea bags, and dried cabbage tree leaves.
We have also received lots of comments about fire bricks.
O.R. writes, "To make fire bricks tear up old newspapers, junk mail, etc, soak in water until a pulp, then squeeze dry, either by hand or using a fire brick cradle. Leave in the sun or a warm place to dry."
K.B. from Kerikeri says, "My daughter and I also save toilet roll inners; we use cardboard rolls from different products and some small cereal boxes and stuff them full of squeezed out soaked paper for the fires in winter. They take a little longer to dry but make great fire starters."
Dave from Opotiki has taken fire brick-making to a new level. "From humble beginnings - I was making bricks by hand, shredding paper into strips and mixing in a bucket of water before pressing into timber moulds; this was time-consuming and not worth the effort so I picked up an old ringer washing machine. I now had a mixer to make papier mache on a larger scale. I then purchased a quality shredder and two plastic garden sieves to drain the excess water from the mache pulp.
"After the mache has been draining for a few hours (overnight) I toss them into 2-litre icecream containers with a 12mm hole drilled in the bottom of each one. This is then pressed in by hand, pushing the mix into the corners of the containers (moulds)."
Once they're pressed, Dave leaves his bricks in the sun to dry. In winter that may take months so some forward planning is required.
He also has a word of caution: "Once completely dry they can be stacked in a back shed or garage but must not get wet as they - like hay bales - can combust and burn down your shed along with the saved up bricks for your winter fires and we don't want that, do we?" No, we don't, Dave - so please be careful when stacking fire bricks. Each dry brick weighs between 300g and 350g - using 2-litre moulds.
Aliza from Dunedin has some cleaning tips. "This works well to clean silver jewellery. Put your pure silver bracelets, rings, etc,Cheap custom printed logo USB flash drives wholesale at wholesale bulk prices. in a bowl lined with tin foil. The oldest bobble head provider - original handmade www.ownfigurine.com Head dolls made to look like the photo you provide to us.Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bangle Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets. Soak them in a mixture of half a cup of white vinegar and 2 tbsp baking soda for two to three hours. Rinse them under cold water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
For a toilet bowl cleaner, mix a quarter cup of baking soda with 1 cup of vinegar, pour into the bowl and leave for a few hours or overnight. Scrub with a brush and rinse."
Marion from Auckland has this tip for a natural weed-killer. "Add half a cup of salt and 8 drops of liquid dish soap to 4-litres of white vinegar.where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder. Put in spray bottle and apply. It will kill weeds in two to three days."
When novelist Charles Condomine invites medium Madame Arcati into his home to conduct a seance as inspiration for his next book, little does he expect her to summon the ghost of his dead first wife, Elvira. The smart card has a memory chip embedded in it that,
Long-standing Progress member Liz Carroll is the very embodiment of eccentricity as Madame Arcati, her jangly jewellery and fabric shawls wafting about the stage as she 'summons the spirits' by dancing and reciting nursery rhymes.
Wonderfully funny, Liz manages to create a character who is cheeky, whimsical and altogether a bit silly - leaving the audience wondering if she really is a fraud who got lucky, or the seasoned professional she claims to be.
While Liz's fits and trances create great physical comedy, Coward's witty lines shine in the exchanges between Charles (Gareth Saunders), his deceased wife Elvira (Nicola Howe) and his second, living, wife Ruth (Christine Moran).
Nicola is both seductive and ever so slightly sinister as Elvira, playing the temptress perfectly as she slinks around the stage, pouting and making mischief.
The moment she first appears is, for a fraction of second, a little frightening, as she drifts in through the window like some kind of, well, ghost, and there is a hint of malice underneath her comedy tantrums throughout.
As usual Progress's staging is strong, with the ghost coming and going through the window into a middle-class 1930s living room, complete with gramophone and chesterfield sofa.
Christine as second wife Ruth, is also impressive, her comic timing spot-on as she throws out some brilliant one liners.
Trapped in the middle of the whirlwind is Charles, who Gareth portrays as slightly hapless, stuck between a vindictive ex-wife with murderous intentions, and a current wife who refuses to play second-fiddle to a ghost.
As the supernatural and natural collide the play becomes increasingly funny, with a few twists thrown in and some moments of chaos to ensure the theatre is regularly filled with roars of laughter.
